ØKOLOGI I HUDPLEJE?

ORGANIC SKINCARE?

Why aren't all of our products 100% organic?

The short answer is that, in practice, "100% organic" is often impossible to achieve in skincare.

First of all, water cannot be organic. Organic certification applies to agricultural grown in soil – not water, minerals or salt. This means that a product containing water will rarely be able to be 100% organic.

There are also ingredients that either cannot be certified organic or for which certification isn't necessarily the whole story.

One example is cacay oil, which I use in several products. The oil is produced according to organic farming principles but isn't certified organic. Similarly, I use a plant-based "Vaseline alternative" in my lip balm, which is not certified organic either. Instead, I have chosen to obtain documentation confirming that the raw material has been tested and found free from pesticide residues.

For me, quality is therefore about more than an organic label. I also look at cultivation methods, raw material quality and purity, documentation, and how the product performs as a whole.

At KJÆRLI', I prioritise organic raw materials whenever it makes sense and whenever good organic alternatives are available. At the same time, I choose the ingredients that I believe are best for the product's quality, performance and safety – even when they cannot be certified organic.

The goal isn't necessarily to achieve the highest possible percentage of organic ingredients on paper, but to create high-quality products with carefully considered and thoughtfully selected ingredients.
