3 MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT FACE OIL
1. “Oils can't penetrate the skin”
That's a simplification. Most oils work primarely in the outermost layer of the skin (the stratum corneum), where the skin barrier is located. Fatty fat acids from plant oils can interact with the skin's own lipids and help it retain moisture.
2. “Oils don't moisturize the skin”
Oils don't contain water, so they don't add moisture to the skin on their own. However, they can help reduce water loss from the skin (TEWL), helping it maintain its natural moisture balance.
3. “Oils just sit on top of the skin”
Some oils are more occlusive than others, but many plant oils contain fatty acids that can interact with the skin's lipid barrier and help support its natural function.
